Torremolinos

Torremolinos
is aimed at the big tourism and it has over 30
years experience. Yes, it´s said that Torremolinos
is the beginning of the big tourism on the Costa
del Sol at all. So you´ll see always the
promotions and offers from the big tour operaters.
The travel brochures offer in Torremolinos the
most rooms on the Costa del Sol with a short way
to the airport. The town centre is also adjusted
to the tourists and so you can find a lot of little
traders with leather goods and proprietary makes.

Torremolinos
offers a large choice of international kitchen
specialities. Especially to point out: the refreshing
"gazpacho" (like a cold vegetable soup)
and the "pescaíto frito" (fried
tiny fish), for which Torremolinos is well-known.
Last-mentioned is a special offer in the sailor´s
area "La Carihuela".
Another advantage is the nearness of the airport(5min.),
and also the existing of a congress centre for
business meetings.
Additional Torremolinos offers periodical cultural
organizations.

In
the centre of the pedestrian precinct of Torremolinos
are small yards and passages with shops. In the
summer there are a lot of people walking here.
But during the winter the town seems to be sleeping
and a lot of shops are "for sale" to
find a new investor for the next holiday season.

Torremolinos has not become "beautiful"
in spite of the money of the tourists. Yes, the
town has renovated a lot and has built nice green
areas, but you notice very quick, that there isn´t
much money to make a great leap forward to a high-standard
tourism. Even if it will not been heard with pleasure.
Torremolinos is still dirty and the visitor can
choose between dog-turds and chewing gum. You
think about those who make it dirty? Now because
of the tourism there is also dirt... So it may
be.
The
town itself will get the smallest part of the
money of the tourists, because the hotels (approx.
35.000 beds capacity) provide their guests very
good. A travel to the Costa del Sol is low-priced
but not cheap and quite a few tourists have to
plan exactly what they can spend and what not.
And so there are not much things which would increase
the income of the town itself, because a lot of
the tourists enjoy only the sun, beach and the
dinner in the hotel. A further loss: Those who
have rent a car will leave the hotel early in
the morning after they had have their coffee or
tea to visit the different beautiful towns on
the coast.
So we come to the festivities: The "Ferias"
in honour of the patron saints of the town Torremolinos
are worthwhile. Here you can make experience how
the Spanish combinate the religious, dancing,
singing and the spanish way of life itself.
Further you can visit the castle "Castillo
del Inglés", in which in the twenties
the veterans of the first world-war were living.
Another attraction is the symbol "Torre del
Homenaje".

For
the beach-holiday you´ll find all in Torremolinos.
The beaches are clean and in good condition. Here
by the sea was constructed what the tourist needs:
A wonderful promenade and short ways to the hotel
and 7kilometres of sandy beaches, clean and comfortable
to be reached.

The
european community has awarded Torremolinos in 1995
and 1996 with the "Blue Flag" for the
clean beaches and the clear water. In between also
the security for the bathing beach was improved
on the Costa del Sol and so you´ll find ambulance
and rescue service.

Another
tip for "All-inclusive-travellers" who
want to visit the coast and the inland with a hired
car: Book the car and the travel together. The prices
are special offers and you need no credit card for
the payment direct "on-site". Hired cars
always bring back empty: You pay a security to the
amount of the full tank and don´t get money
back if you refil the tank.

Torremolinos
offers sun, beach and the sea with low-priced hotels
preferable with half-board. In the mornings and
in the evenings you can enjoy the buffet and during
the day you have perhaps only a bite. The food is
quite enough in the hotels.
Festivities
/ Ferias:
